English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institue of Tulungagung (IAIN Tulungagung). Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M. Pd. Keywords: Song Lyric, Vocabulary Vocabulary is fundamental for those who study English. By having a good vocabulary, of course we will be able to communicate well. That’s why vocabulary is very important in learning English. Learning vocabulary can be from reading English books or learn song lyric in English. Not only for communication, but also having good vocabulary can be applied in learning English. The purpose of this study is to know the effectiveness of using song lyric in teaching vocabulary in first-grade of Islamic Junior High School 1 Blitar. The method of this research is quasi-experimental study. This research used quantitative research design. This study was carried out into two classes, there are experimental class and control class. The sample of this study consist of 32 students from the experimental class and 31 students from control class selected by random sampling. From the data analysis, we can show that the mean of the post-test is higher than the pre-test. The mean pre-test score of the experimental class is 59.00 and the post-test mean score is 80.625. In addition, in the control class, the mean pre-test score is 58.125 and the post-test mean score is 77.0625. This study showed that using song lyrics is effective in teaching vocabulary in the first grade of Islamic Junior High School 1 of Blitar. The effectiveness of using song lyrics can be seen from the mean score before teaching using song lyrics and after being taught using song lyrics.
