English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Key Words: Reading , Teacher strategy, Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Blitar Reading is very important for English learners because reading can enlarge their knowledge, vocabulary, and information. From reading, English learner also can learn about foreign language people‟s habit and culture. there are factors to affect students' reading English in class. One of them is they fail in comprehension in reading. The researcher chooses those Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Blitar school because there only have one class especially in the ninth grade and the research interest to know how the teaching strategies used by the teacher in teaching reading. Based on the statement above, the teacher has to have a strategy to make the student‟s ready to read. By applying the correct strategies in teaching and learning process, the teacher is able to evoke the student‟s confident to read correctly. The formulations of the research problems were: 1) How the teaching strategies used by the teacher in teaching reading at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 2 Blitar contributive to their reading? Research method: 1) the research design of this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) data sources of the researches was teachers as the informant, 3) the method of collecting data was observation, interview, 4) technique of verification was triangulation methodologically, 5) technique of data analysis was data reductions, data display and conclusion drawing. This research show that in teaching reading comprehension the teacher uses various teaching strategies they are: Memorizing, Question and answer relationship, Discussion. Based on this research, those strategies are effective in teaching reading comprehension because can help student to comprehend the text. In short, those strategies give good contribution for teacher. Students who have difficulty in reading will be easier in mastering reading comprehension. With uses this strategy the teacher more easily gives the material to the students. Those strategies can help the teacher because the students more active. And the students can exchange their opinion with their friends.
