Key Terms: Speech Style, Dolittle Movie Language is a way for the speaker to get his or her message across to the listener. But the way someone says what they want to say depends a lot on the situation, who they are talking to, and how they are feeling. Film is one of the methods in which individuals may communicate through seeing the situations of others. Because of this reason, this study was carried out using Dolittle movie as resource of the data. The goal of the research was to find out what kinds of speech styles Dr. Dolittle used, how the lexical and grammatical form of the mostly used speech style, and what the function of speech style was. Thus, the study used content analysis and a qualitative methodology to provide an explanation for the phenomena of speech style in the film’s main character’s lines. The data was presented in the form of written text from the script of the utterance that stated in the whole movie by Dr. Dolittle. For the second instrument, the researcher wrote down the data in tables or on data sheets. In the process of analyzing, the researcher used triangulation as data trustworthiness. The results showed that the main character in the movie Dolittle used four types of speech styles: intimate (197 utterances), informal (51 utterances), consultative (71 utterances), and formal (24 utterances). On the other hand, there was no evidence of frozen style in any of the speeches. The lexical form used was short and the grammatical form was mostly incomplete. Moreover, as the most speech style used Dr. Dolittle was intimate, the purpose was to show his intimate affinity with animals. At the same time, it may be means to communicate the ideas, exchange views, and display feelings.
