This study found that not all types of taboo words (Epithet, Obscenity, Profanity, and Vulgarity) occur in the movie Finding Nemo. The characters in this film only use Epithet and Vulgarity taboo words. Epithet appears the most in conversations between characters in this film, which is 12 times. Epithet is often used to express epithets such as gender, race, appearance, and disability. There are 4 types of functions of taboo words according to Wardaugh (2007), namely; 1) To Draw Attention to Oneself, 2) To Show Contempt, 3) To be Provocative, and 4) To Mock Authority. To Draw Attention to Oneself is the highest choice in this research to attract the attention of others from the taboo words spoken in the characters in this film. To Show Contempt is used to show contempt and condescension between the interlocutors.
