English Education Department. Faculty of Education and Teacher Training. State Islamic University (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor. Dr. Erna Iftanti, S.S., M.M. Keywords: Writing, Procedure Text, Problem based learning. At Junior High School, the students must know several kinds of writing. One of them is writing procedure text. technique in teaching writing procedure text is to use an problem based learning methods. Problem based learning is one of methods that can be used by teacher and students in teaching and learning process. The formulation of the research problem of this research "is there any effectiveness before and after being taught by using Problem Based Learning Methods?”. Meanwhile, the purpose of this research is “To find out effectiveness writing procedure text to students’ before and after being taught by using Problem Based Learning Methods”. This research used pre- experimental design with one group pretest- posttest with quantitative approach. In this research, the population is the IX grader students of Mts Imam Al Ghozali with sample 25 students. The research instruments were tests. Writing tests. This study analyzed the data using the Sample paired t- test. The results of this research show that the Problem Based Learning technique in teaching writing procedure text can increase students’ achievements at IX grader students of Mts Imam Al-Ghozali. This can be seen from the average score of students before being taught using the methods is 35.6800while after being taught using the methods is 82.8800 . From these results it can be concluded that there are significant differences in the writing procedure text students before and after being taught using the problem based learning methods in the nineth grade of MTs Imam Al Ghozali Tulungagung.
