English Education Program. State Islamic Institute of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, M.Pd Keywords: Speaking Learning Strategy. Acceleration Students. Language skills are important to be mastered by every students. Hence, an institution has important role in facilitating students learning. On the other hand, the students should have language learning strategy to support their learning. MAN Trenggalek put its students in different three levels, regular, excellent, and acceleration class. Each consists of students with different level of performance. The acceleration class students are those whose speaking skill is good. In learning speaking they employ their learning strategy to enhance their proficiency. The research problem in this study: 1)What are the learning strategies employed by the twelve grade of the acceleration students of MAN Trenggalek to improve their speaking proficiency? 2) How are the learning strategy employed by the twelve grade of the acceleration students contributive to improve their speaking proficiency? The purpose of the study are: 1) To explore the learning strategy employed by the twelve grade of the acceleration students of MAN Trenggalek to improve their speaking proficiency. 2) To explore how the learning strategy employed by the twelve grade of the acceleration students contributive to improve their speaking proficiency. The researcher applied a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. The data in this research are the speaking learning strategy employed by the acceleration students and how the learning strategy contributive to improve their speaking proficiency. The subject of this research are five students were selected based on the certain criteria. Technique of the data collection in this study were doing observation, conducting interview and making field note. The researcher finds various activities in speaking employed by the twelve grade acceleration students of MAN Trenggalek. The activities are: (1) preparing theme or topic before practicing speaking (2) sharing with friends and teacher related to grammar (3) paying attention in grammar(4 ) mastering three simple tenses (5) listing a note to be found their meaning (6) finding a new vocabulary in dictionary and always imitating how to pronounce it (7) listening to English music while looking at lyric, and finding the new vocab (8) learning with expert tutor when joining English competition (9) learning from other performance for example in YouTube (10) memorizing new vocab in a week (11) practicing speaking with friends in or out of the class (12) making a short conversation with teacher (13) performing speaking in front of the mirror and recording their voice (14) practicing speaking once or twice in a week if any English subject (15) practicing speaking a lot before join the competition (16) imitating the teacher’s performance (17) maintaining selves-confidence in practicing speaking (18) paid attention the expression in practicing speaking (19) keeping intonation and stress in practicing speaking regularly (20) maintaining fluency and accuracy because it can influence speaking. Meanwhile, the employed strategies were contributive for the students, in which: (1) they could develop their language, (2) they could speak fluently, (3) they could increase their vocabularies and pronunciation ability, (4) they got meaningful feedback, (5) they could support their motivation in learning and (6) they could express their ideas fluently.
