Abstract

Key words: Deixis, Social Deixis, Movie Deixis is a word or expression that has a certain meaning and refers to certain things depending on the person, place, time and social conditions in the context of conversation between speakers. Deixis can be found in everyday conversation, besides that deixis can also be found in literary works such as movies, songs, novels, poetry, etc. Social deixis is a deixis whose existence explains a person's position based on social status. Here, the writer conducts research on the use of social deixis in THE KING movie. THE KING Movie is a historical themed film packed with epic cinematography which also shows how the attitude of a leader who is very influential for his followers and his country. This research is formulated in 3 problem formulations, namely: (1) What types of social deixis are found in the film "THE KING"?, (2) How is social deixis used in the film "THE KING"?, (3) What factors are involved ? influence the use of social deixis in THE KING? film. This research is included in the category of literature studies with a descriptive qualitative approach. The object of this research is THE KING script and film. Researchers collected data by downloading films and scripts from THE KING films, watching films, reading scripts, labeling, analyzing each utterance of social deixis using Levinson's Theory. Data analysis was carried out by reducing data, displaying data and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study are (1) there are two types of social deixis used in this movie, namely absolute social deixis and relational social deixis, (2) social deixis found totaling 112 utterances, with details of absolute social deixis of 101 utterances and relational deixis as many as 11 utterances. Absolute social deixis is mostly used in the context of conversations between kings and their subordinates, while relational social deixis is used in the context of conversations between kings and inner royal family members, (3) The factors that influence the use of social deixis in THE KING movie are social status, familiarity between speakers and the presence of formality or informality.
