Abstract
ABSTRACT Rahmadina, Cholidya Noor. Registered number of students: 12510194006. 2022. Learning Strategies Employed by Students of State Islamic Junior High School 1 Blitar. English Language and Teaching Program. School of Graduate Studies. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisors: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. and Dr. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Keywords: Learning English Language, Learning Style, Learning Strategy, Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) In the teaching and learning process, teaching techniques and methods greatly affect students’ success. However, the effectiveness of these methods and techniques is not the same in every student; because each student has a different learning style. Referring to the diversity of student learning styles, in the learning process students will also use different learning strategies to support their learning process. In this study, researchers will help students find out the learning styles they usually use in the process of learning English. Furthermore, researchers will also examine learning strategies that students typically use based on their learning styles. This study aims to make the teachers easier to apply teaching methods and techniques according to students’ learning styles. In addition, students must be aware of the learning strategies they apply in the learning process so that they can accept and understand the lesson well. Formulation of the problem in writing of this thesis are (1) What kind of language learning strategy is most often used by the students based on their learning style? (2)Why did the students choose this particular language learning strategy in their learning process?. This research is designed based on descriptive qualitative design. While the date are collected with PALLS and SILL questionnaire and also interview questions. From these result, the researcher conclude that (1) all of students class IX of State Islamic Junior High School 1 Blitar used the six strategies including memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, meta-cognitive strategy, affective strategy, and social strategy. While the learning strategy that is most often used by students is meta-cognitive strategy. Students with different learning styles had the common strategy used in English learning process which broke down into five categories. (2) From these five categories, the researcher conclude that each student has different learning strategies in their learning process to help them comprehending the material well. Indirectly, choosing a certain learning strategy in the language learning process is a way for students to help them achieve learning goals.
