Keywords : The Effect, Writing Descriptive Text, Project Based learning Writing descriptive text often become a problem for the students, especially in Senior High School. Mostly, the students face some problems in generating ideas to describe the objects, organizing idea, less understanding about grammar, and some aspects of writing. To help the students solve the problems, the teacher should be able to find teaching method that makes the students interest and enthusiast in writing. Project based learning can be an alternative teaching method which attract students ‘willingness in writing. Project based learning allows students to learn based on their interest by giving students a project as the task. The project helps students to share their experiences in writing descriptive text because project based learning engages real object to describe. Based on the statement above, this present study tried to investigate the effect of the use Project based learning in writing descriptive text to students’ score. Whether Project-based learning can increase students’ achievement in writing descriptive text or not. The scope of this research was students’ score. The sample of the study was 34 students from 603 students of tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar. The formulation of research problem in this study: “Did the use of project based learning affect students’ writing descriptive text achievement at the tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Udanawu?” Based on the formulation of research problem, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Project based learning on students’ writing descriptive text. This research used quantitative approach, especially pre-experimental design. The instrument used in this research namely tests, there were pre-test and post-test. The researcher analyzed the data by using Paired Sample T-test with IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. The findings of the research showed that there is any significant difference between the results of pre-test and post-test. The mean of pre-test was 64.12, while the mean of post�test was 74.71. It meant that there was increasing score on the students’ achievement. From statistical calculation of T-test showed that the significance value was 0.000. It was smaller than standard significance level (0.05). It can be drawn 0.000<0.05. It meant that H1 was accepted and Ho was rejected. From the finding, it could be inferred that the use Project based learning is effective to the students’ writing achievement and project based learning can increase students’ score. Therefore, project based learning can be used in teaching and learning English especially writing descriptive text
