Abstract

English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. States Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: deixis, main character We often read a book, speech script, newspaper, magazine, novel, etc. and find deixis in it. But, we do not realize that we find deixis in it. It is because we as readers do not know about deixis yet. Learning deixis can help the readers in understanding what the speaker means (utterances) in a conversation that exists in the book, speech script, newspaper or in a conversation directly, especially when the utterances cannot be understood literally. The formulation of the research problem is what are types of deixis used by the main character (Elsa) in movie script of “Frozen”?. Based on the research problem, the research objective is to analyze the types of deixis used by main character (Elsa) in movie script of “Frozen”?. Research method: 1) In this study the researcher uses library research design. 2) Data that are used in this study are movie script of “Frozen” that there are utterances of the main character (Elsa) containing deictic expressions in it. 3) Because of the research design of this study is library research, the source of the data is library. 4) The researcher uses documentation method in collecting the data, and the instrument is the researcher herself. 5) Data analysis and interpretation consist of selecting data, organizing data, explaining data, classifying data, interpreting data and concluding. 6) In supporting the trustworthiness of the data, the researcher uses terms of credibility. The result showed that the main character (Elsa) only uses person deixis and place deixis, does not use time and often uses place deixis (“here”) in talking with the other characters in movie script of “Frozen”. In this study, person deixis is more dominant than place deixis, and in the previous study, person deixis is also more dominant.
