Writing is one the important skills in language. Usually, students faced problems in writing such as students in SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang. They felt difficult in translating words and they couldn’t organize their text well or sometimes they felt that writing is the most difficult skills in language learning. Descriptive video is one of videos which can be used in improving students’ writing ability. Descriptive video consists of pictures, animation, sounds, and narration which will give visual impairment for students to help them write the story easily. This research was intended to answer the research problems as follows: 1) How does descriptive video enhance students’ writing ability in narrative text at the second grade of SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang through descriptive video? 2) How is the improvement of students’ writing ability in narrative text after being taught through descriptive video at the second grade of SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang? The purposes of this study were to: 1) know how descriptive video enhance students’ writing ability in narrative text at the second grade of SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang. 2) find out the improvement of students’ writing ability in narrative text after being taught through descriptive video at the second grade of SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang. The research design of this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which conducted at the second grade of SMP Islam Brawijaya Jombang in academic years 2015/2016 on April 11 th-16th 2016. The model of this Class Room Action Research was adapted from Kemmis and Taggart which covered four steps in this research namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this study was twenty students of VIII A class which consist of 11 boys and 9 girls. Both of qualitative and quantitative data were used in this study. The data were obtained from observation, interview, and test. In analyzing the qualitative data, the researcher used constant and comparative method while the quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. viii The criteria of success in this research were if the mean score of students’ ability in writing narrative text was equal or more than 75.00. There are five writing aspect which has to be mastered by students: fluency, grammar, vocabulary, content, and spelling. Based on the result of cycle I the students’ mean score were 72.98. It was 60% of students who passed the passing grade. After analyzing the data, the researcher interpreted the data. The result of data interpretation was the researcher hasn’t been successful yet. In cycle II, the students’ mean score was improved. The mean score of post test cycle II was 78.10. It was 80% of students who passed the passing grade. So, this research was successful in enhancing students’ writing ability in narrative text.
