Keywords: Semiotic Analysis, BTS, Music Video Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and their use in communication. Signs and symbols can be found in many aspects of people's daily lives, with music videos being one of the most common. In this study, the researcher connects semiotics with examining a music video because it contains song lyrics and visuals that refer to the use of semiotics. Hence, the researcher concerns with the study entitled Semiotics Analysis in the Music Video of BTS's Songs. BTS, a pioneer of the Korean wave phenomenon, has garnered an immense international following. Their music videos go beyond language barriers and captivate audiences of all ages. This study delves into BTS's music videos, particularly those from their album "Map of the Soul: 7," which have left a profound impact on the global music landscape. The problem formulations guiding this thesis align with the central theme of semiotics analysis in BTS's music videos, as indicated by the title. Specifically, the formulated questions are: (1) What types of meanings are discernible in the semiotic elements of BTS’s music videos? and (2) How are these meanings effectively conveyed through the combination of visual and linguistic signs in the music videos of BTS’s songs? The study aims to achieve two primary objectives: firstly, to identify the types of meanings present in the semiotic elements of BTS's music videos, secondly, to describe how these meanings are effectively conveyed through the combination of visual and linguistic signs in the music videos of BTS’s songs. Qualitative research methods are employed to collect and analyze data because the data analysis is presented descriptively. The data collection focuses on the three selected songs from "Map of the Soul: 7," namely "Persona," "Shadow," and "Ego." The research involves repeated viewings of the music videos, transcription of the lyrics, and careful analysis of both visual and linguistic signs present in the videos. The data is categorized into three types of meanings following Roland Barthes' semiotics theory: denotation, connotation, and myth. Through repeated viewings and careful transcription, the data is analyzed and categorized according to these meanings. The findings of this study indicate that there were three types of meanings in BTS music videos, namely denotation 22, connotation 14, and myth 5. The analysis demonstrates that Roland Barthes' semiotic framework effectively unveils the meanings contained within these videos. Each of the three selected songs from the album "Map of the Soul: 7" conveys unique messages. xiii "Persona" explores an artist's struggle with identity, influenced by external beliefs. "Shadow" depicts the artist's journey to success amid the shadow of relentless scrutiny from fans. "Ego" portrays an artist overcoming obstacles to achieve personal and professional growth. In conclusion, this study enhances our understanding of how language, symbolism, and visuals collaborate to convey important messages. This research contributes valuable insights for students, educators, and researchers. enabling a deeper comprehension of the semiotic richness of music videos in the global context.
