ABSTRACT Admaja, Henndy Alif. 2023. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING YOUTUBE VLOG VIDEO ON THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS' LISTENING SKILLS. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung University.Supervisor: Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. In English language learning, listening skills hold significant and wellbalanced importance alongside other skills such as speaking, writing, and reading. The primary objective of English education in schools is to enable students to communicate in English both verbally and in writing. This necessitates the instruction of four language skills : listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening and reading are passive, while speaking and writing are active. The research question of this thesis is, "Is there a significant difference in students' listening skill scores before and after being taught using YouTube vlog videos at SMP Internasional Darul Akhwan?" The research design employed is a pre-experimental design utilizing a single group and a quantitative approach. The study population for this research consists of 27 seventh-grade students from SMP Internasional Darul Akhwan Tulungagung in the academic year 2023/2024. The research instruments encompass pre-tests and post-tests. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS software through the Mann-Whitney test. The research findings indicate that the YouTube vlog video strategy is effective in teaching listening skills to seventh-grade students at SMP Internasional Darul Akhwan Tulungagung. This is evident from the pre-test score (75.19) and the post-test score (80.56). Additionally, the p-value is smaller than the significance level (0.005 < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the utilization of the YouTube vlog video strategy is effective in teaching listening skills In summary, the study confirms a significant improvement in students' listening mastery when utilizing YouTube vlog videos in seventh-grade classrooms at SMP International Darul Akhwan. This underscores the effectiveness of YouTube vlogs as a valuable tool for enhancing listening comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, YouTube vlog videos can be seamlessly integrated into English language instruction to bolster listening skills, making them a valuable and efficient educational resource for SMP/MTs equivalent students.
