The Students’ Perception on the Use of Grammarly as an Online Grammar Checker in an Academic Writing at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: Students’ Perception, Grammarly, Academic Writing. Grammar is an important aspect of language since it is needed to construct sentences. Unfortunately, the majority of students particularly in Indonesia still find difficulties on how to use grammar correctly. Some previous studies found that many students make errors in grammar. To overcome the problem, the students can utilize an online grammar checker. Grammarly is a kind of online grammar checker to help the students identifying the grammar errors. This research was investigating the students' perception on the use of Grammarly as an online grammar checker in an academic writing, which focuses on thesis writing. The research problems in this study is “How is the students’ perception on the use of Grammarly as an online grammar checker for their academic writing?” The research method of this study was used a descriptive quantitative approach with survey design. The population of this study was all English Education Department students of the 8th semester on the academic year 2023/2024 at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. There were five classes that consisted of 195 students. The sample of this study was selected using purposive sampling technique and got 52 students from class A until class E. The data was collected through a questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical methods with help of the SPSS 24.0. The result showed that most of the students gave a positive perception toward the use of Grammarly is helpful for students to correct their writing mistakes, especially in correcting grammatical errors in their thesis writing. The finding also revealed that the mean score from the first indicator is 4,12 which indicated that the students have positive perception toward Grammarly feedback is helpful for improving thesis writing skills. Moreover, the mean score from the second indicator is 4,26 which indicated that students also have positive perception toward the Grammarly features is helpful for correcting writing error in thesis writing. Meanwhile, the mean score from the third indicator is 2,67 which indicated that students have negative perception when using Grammarly. Students believe that Grammarly requires good internet accessibility.
