Tadris Bahasa Inggris. Fakultas Tarbiyah dan Ilmu Keguruan. Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Pembimbing : Dr. H. Nursamsu S.Pd., M.Pd. Key Words : Effectiveness, vocabulary, new concept English textbook Vocabulary mastery is an important thing in teaching and learning English. If students don’t master vocabulary the consequence students would have difficulty in learning all skills in English. Recognizing the importance of vocabulary, there are many ways how to master new vocabulary. One of the ways is by using New Concept English textbook. New Concept English is a text book which is written by Louis Gorge Alexander at 1978. The main aim of this research was knowing any significant differences score on 10th grade students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using New Concept English textbook at SMA Negeri 2 Trenggalek. The researcher stated the formulation of the research question as follow, “Is there any significant different score on 10th grade students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using New Concept English textbook at SMA Negeri 2 Trenggalek?”. This research used a quantitative approach with the pre-experimental research design. The population in this research was 10th grade students at SMAN 2 Trenggalek and the sample was X-4 SMAN 2 Trenggalek with total 33 students. The data were taken by administering pre-test and post-test of vocabulary. The data were calculated by paired sample t-test. Based on the result, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that New Concept English textbook was effective on students’ vocabulary mastery at SMAN 2 Trenggalek. The paired sample t test showed that the value of sig. was 0.000. It meant a significance value was lower than significance level 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05).
