Abstract

Role play has been widely used in English speaking practice in both formal and non-formal institutions. Using a role play helps students develop their communication skills in a fun way. This research aimed at finding out the studens’ views on the implementation of role play in speaking practice for Mentari Program at Fajar English Course Pare. The research was qualitative research that used case study as the research design. The subjects of this research were 6 out of 15 male students of Mentari Program at Fajar English Course Pare who used role play in their speaking class, which have been selected by researcher using teacher's assessment of all levels (highest, medium and lowest). Researcher used observation checklist, interview guide, and documentation as instrument in this research. Data analysis in this research is by condensation data, displaying data, drawing conclusion. The result showed that Mentari Program students have good views and enjoyable experience on the implementation of role play, in this case related to procedure, advantages and disadvantages of role play in their speaking practice.
