Advisor: Dr. Hj.Ida Isnawati, M.Pd Keywords : Duolingo Application, Effectiveness, Vocabulary Mastery Vocabulary is a crucial component of English language learning as it is essential for developing the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Before mastering the English language, students must first master vocabulary, as it serves as the foundation. Limited vocabulary can make mastering English more challenging. Various techniques can be employed to master vocabulary, and one such technique is the drill technique using the Duolingo Application. This application helps students acquire and practice vocabulary repeatedly through internet-based activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using the Duolingo Application in improving the vocabulary mastery of tenth-grade students at MAN KOTA BLITAR. To address this, the research question was formulated as follows: " Is there a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of students taught using and without using the Duolingo application at MAN KOTA BLITAR?". The research design in this study was quasi-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this study is the tenth grade of students at MAN KOTA BLITAR The samples involve X E4 consists of 30 students as the experimental class where the control class consists of 30 students from X E3. This research used 25 multiple choice questions as the instrument. The researcher administered the test instrument in both experimental and controlled group for pre-test and post-test with 60 minutes as the time allocation. The results indicated that the Duolingo Application effectively increased the vocabulary mastery of the sample group, class X E4 students at MAN KOTA BLITAR. The average results of understanding the concept of the Duolingo Application Experimental Class increased to the medium category, obtained an N-Gain of 0.58. Meanwhile, in the control class there was an increase in the low category, getting an N-Gain of 0.06. The highest increase was found in the exemplary indicator by obtaining an N-Gain of 0.92 in the high category. Meanwhile, the lowest increase was in the comparison indicator by looking at the N-Gain of 0.55 in the medium category.. In conclusion, the treatment, which involved the use of the Duolingo Application, effectively increased the students’ vocabulary mastery.
