Language functions as a tool of human interaction, facilitating communication between individuals. However, misunderstandings often arise when listeners misinterpret the speaker’s intentions. Misinterpretations like this can occur not only in direct interactions but also when individuals are involved in dialogue in films, thus potentially distorting the message being conveyed. In such cases, listeners may develop an exaggerated or inaccurate understanding of the terms used. Social deixis is a concept in pragmatic theory, which can provide insight into examples of errors in interpreting the meaning of words in utterances. This study aims to identify and analyze the social deixis expressions used in the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” directed by Andrew Adamson. The research addresses two key questions: First, what types of social deixis in the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”. Second, what functions of social deixis used in the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”. This research is classified as qualitative research, employing a descriptive qualitative method. The data for this study consists of utterances containgin social deictic expressions made by the characters in the film. The primary data source is the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, supplemented by additional references from books, articles related to the theory, and online sources. The results of this research show that there are two types of social deixis used in the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” using Levinson’s theory, those are relational social deixis and absolute social deixis. First, there are 21 utterances containing relational social deixis. They are 8 speaker and referent, 9 speaker and addressee, only one phrase included in speaker and bystander, and 3 speaker and setting. Second, there are 18 utterances containing absolute social deixis. They are 4 authorized speaker and 14 authorized recipient. Apart from that, researcher use Chaniago’s theory to find the function of social deixis in this movie. Researcher found four functions out of the five functions mentioned by Chaniago from social deictic words and phrases found in this movie. There are to distinguish a person’s social level, to maintain politeness in language, to clarify the closeness of social relations, and to maintain social attitude.
