Pradana, Wildan Fachri Pandu. 12203193074, Students' SelfConfidence and Personality in Practicing Speaking English at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah, Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Susanto, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Self-confidence, personality, Practicing speaking English Practically, both self-confidence and personality have important roles in learning. In the benefit of learning speaking, the students’ self-confidence and personality may affect their speaking practice. The research questions are: 1) How are students' selfconfidence and personality in practicing speaking English of the fifth semester at UIN SATU Tulungagung? 2) What are the benefits of self-confidence and personality in practicing speaking English of the fifth semester at UIN SATU Tulungagung? 1) To determine students' perceptions on the role of their self-confidence and personality in practicing speaking English of the fifth semester at UIN SATU Tulungagung. 2)To find out the benefits of the role of self-confidence and personality in practicing speaking English of the fifth semester at UIN SATU Tulungagung. This research used a quantitative approach with survey design. The participant involved 39 students which were selected by using random sampling. The instrument used was questionnaires consisted of 30 items using Likert scale. The instrument was good for it fulfilled the characteristics of being valid and reliable. The data collection technique used a Google Forms. Quantitative data analysis was carried out using the SPSS program to determine statistical data and descriptive statistics to determine students' tendencies in perceiving self-confidence and personality. The results of the research show that 1) Students' selfconfidence in practicing speaking English include, a) believe in their own abilities with a percentage of 53.8%, b) act independently in making decisions, with a percentage of 69.2%, c) have a positive self-concept with a percentage of 69.2%, d) dare in expressing their opinions with a percentage of 64.1%. Meanwhile, students’ personality in practicing speaking English includes, a) character with a percentage of 64.1%, b) temperament with a percentage of 59%, c) attitude with a percentage of 56.4%, d) emotional stability with a percentage of 71.8%. e) sense of responsibility with a percentage of 79.5%, f) sociability with a percentage of 71.8% with respondents giving a positive response. 2) The benefits of selfconfidence and personality include: a) the benefits of one's own abilities, b) being proud the abilities students have will make one a quality person, c) forming a positive self-concept, d) the limited knowledge one has will receive an explanation when discussing, e) having the courage to express one's opinion, namely being able to express one's opinion.
