Abstract

The spotify app is one of the world famous digital apps, which allows streaming music, podcasts, and videos is spotify. Millions of listeners of songs and other content from artists around the world can access spotify. One of the skills mastered when learning a language is listening. a lot of practice will affect how fluently one listens. The purpose of the spotify app because of its features to help students listen better. Because the researcher argues that the spotify application is quite attractive and used in learning because of the way it is easily accessed by anyone and anywhere. The formulation of the problem in this study is: Is the use of Spotify music application effective in teaching listening? The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of Spotify music application is effective in learning listening. This research design is an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population of this study were 9th grade students of SMPN 3 Kedungwaru. The sample of this study was class IX B consisting of 32 students. The test used was a pre-test post-test. In this study, researcher used purposive sampling technique, which means that sampling from the population was taken from students who have a hobby of listening to English music using the Spotify application. Data analysis used independent sample t-test. The result of this study is the use of English songs in the spotify application is very effective in learning English, especially in the field of listening skills. This can be seen from the difference in the average value of students' pre-test is 63.9 and the average value of students' post-test is 83.44. Statistically significant calculation results (2-tailed) of the Independent Sample T-Test.Based on the results of the T-test, the significan value is 0.00 which means it is smaller than 0.05.It can be concluded that the use of English songs through the spotify application is very effective in teaching student listening and can improve the listening skills of 9th grade students of SMPN 3 Kedungwaru Tulungagung.
