Abstract
The thesis entitled "Effectiveness of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) through ESL Course Application on Listening Skill of Eleventh Grade at SMK Islam 2 Durenan Trenggalek" was written by Wiyang Abiyuhadiri Saputra, NIM. 126203213208, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, advisor by Latif Amrullah, S.S., M.A. Keywords: Mobile Assisted Language Learning, MALL, ESL Course Appcation, Listening Skill. The background of this study stems from the problems observed during classroom learning, which the difficulty is experienced by many students due to a lack of listening skills. This problem is caused by several factors, including the use of conventional learning methods and ineffective learning media. To overcome this problem, the researcher conducted a study using technology-based learning media, especially Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). The use of MALL through the ESL Course App is an innovative approach to student learning, because of the use of smartphones as learning media, and the ESL Course App which has good features on listening skills. Research objectives: 1) To measure how effective is the use of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) through ESL Course Application in improving the listening skill of eleventh-grade students at SMK Islam 2 Durenan, Trenggalek. 2) To know about the significant difference in students' listening ability before and after using Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) through ESL Course Application. The research employed a quantitative approach, specifically using a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest format. Data collection techniques included documentation and learning outcome tests, which were then analyzed using statistical methods. Instrument testing involved validity and reliability tests. The prerequisite tests consisted of normality and homogeneity tests. Finally, hypothesis testing was conducted using the T-test. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The use of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) through the ESL Course Application is effective in improving the listening skills of 11th-grade students at SMK Islam 2 Durenan Trenggalek. This is evident from the difference in scores between the experimental and control groups, with the experimental group achieving higher scores. This difference is attributed to the treatment received by the experimental group, which involved the use of MALL through the ESL Course Application. 2) There is a significant difference in students' listening skills before and after using MALL through the ESL Course Application. This is demonstrated by the difference in pretest and posttest scores in the experimental group, where a significant improvement in scores was observed after the treatment.
