Abstract
The thesis entitled “The Effectiveness of Digital Storytelling Video in Teaching Vocabulary Mastery at The Seventh Grade Students of UPT SMPN 1 Sanankulon Blitar.” Was written by Fatimatu Nurunnisa, Student ID Number. 126203211027. 2025. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. Keywords: effectiveness, language teaching, digital storytelling, vocabulary Vocabulary is important in the English learning process. Vocabulary is also a difficult thing in the process of learning English. For this reason, it is important for us to learn it, as educators it is also important to have skills in the process of delivering learning materials so that students do not feel bored in participating in class learning. This research refers to Nation's theory. The use of Digital Storytelling Video, is an online media that is expected to increase students' understanding or mastery of English vocabulary. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using Digital Storytelling Video in improving the mastery of vocabulary of seventh grade students at UPT SMPN 1 Sanankulon Blitar. This study used a pre-experimental design method with the form of one group pre-test and post-test. The research subjects were 24 students in class VII-D. Data were collected by conducting pre-test and post-test activities and then the results obtained were analyzed by paired sample t-test using SPSS version 26.0, the instruments used before being given to students have been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed a significant increase between the pre-test and post-test scores, namely 43.08 in the pre-test and 74.0 in the post-test. The paired sample t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (Sig. 2-tailed <0.05), with a calculated t value of -14.470 and df = 23. Based on these results, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The results of this study indicate that the use of Digital Storytelling Video can significantly improve students' understanding or mastery of vocabulary. Based on these results, the researcher can conclude that the use of digital storytelling video in students' vocabulary acquisition has a significant effect. This strategy also proved to be effective for students' vocabulary acquisition and it is recommended that English educators use this innovative learning media. Future researchers are advised to further develop this study by covering other language skills.
