Faizin, Muhammad Nur. 2024. Students’ Perceptions of The Usefulness of ChatGPT In ELT of The Fifth Semester at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. A Thesis, English Education Department, Faculity of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University of Tulungagung. Advisior: Dr.H.Muh Basun, M.Pd. Key Words: ChatGPT, ELT, Perception English language learning has undergone changes with the emergence of new technologies, one of which is the use of AI applications like ChatGPT. This technology has begun to be implemented to support language learning, but there is still little research examining students' perceptions of using ChatGPT in English language learning. This study aims to understand students' perceptions regarding the use of ChatGPT in ELT to improve English language skills, particularly writing, speaking, and reading comprehension skills. This research employs a quantitative approach using survey methods. Data was collected through a questionnaire with 30 fifth-semester English major students at UIN SATU TULUNGAGUNG. The findings show that most students feel ChatGPT is effective in improving their writing and speaking skills. they also feel that this application provides quite accurate information. This research concludes that ChatGPT can be a useful tool in English language learning, although it requires teacher supervision to maximize its use. Further research is recommended to explore the limitations of this application and its impact in the broader context of language teaching
