Abstract
This research aims to find out how the proficiency in speaking skills at Junior High School 1 Ngantru Tulungagung with the implementation of role play method. The formulation of the problem in this study is “How is The Implementation of Role Play Method in Teaching Speaking Skill at 2nd Grade of Junior High School 1 Ngantru Tulungagung?" This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a case study research method. The population in this study was the teachers at Junior High School 1 Ngantru Tulungagung. The instrument used in this research is a qualitative case study, the data analysis used were from interview, observation and documentation. In the role play method, the teacher acts as a facilitator and creates a scenario. Some students have to act out the prepared scenario, and others answer some questions. And students give their opinions and answer questions. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that role play is an effective way to encourage spontaneous language production. Students participate more enthusiastically in lessons that use role play. It can be seen from the students' responses which are quite good and flexible. From the teacher's perspective, it also shows that this method is quite good and appropriate to use in learning speaking. The effectiveness is shown by the overall improvement in students' fluency in English pronunciation, intonation and usage.
