The Effectiveness of Using One Day One Word (ODOW) Strategy toward Vocabulary Mastery of Eighth Grade Students of Islamic Junior High School 2 of Blitar. Thesis. English Language Teaching Program. Keyword: vocabulary, learning strategy, effective, One Day One Word Strategy A lot of learning strategies which offer to master vocabulary in learning second language can be found massively. However, what the learners need is a learning strategy which can ease them but still produce optimal result. The researcher offers a strategy which can be an alternative to expand the students’ vocabulary. This strategy is named One Day One Word (ODOW) Strategy. It is modified by the combination of explicit vocabulary teaching strategy and self-regulated learning theories. In this strategy, the learners are demanded to engage within English everyday, everywhere. That is why, the researcher uses this strategy in this study to test whether this strategy has an effect to be implemented or not. The objective of this study is to find out the effect of using One Day One Word (ODOW) Strategy in teaching English vocabulary for eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School 2 of Blitar. The research method of this study is quantitative research within pre-experimental design which means there is only one experimental group here. The population of this study is all of eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School 2 of Blitar consist of 343 students. The sample of this study is class A within 44 students consist of 20 males and 24 females. The sampling technique was random sampling technique. The instrument of this study is test. To collect the data, the researcher uses both pre-test and post-test. The researcher uses the same test for both pre-test and post-test. The test consists of 3 kinds of test which are cross words within 10 items, jumbled words within 10 items, and cloze test within 15 items. The analysis of the data shows whether the data includes in non-parametric data by testing the homogeneity. Then, to test the hypothesis, the researcher uses the formula of Wilcoxon by SPSS version 16.0. The result of the data showed that the Pvalue (sig) is 0.000. This displays that Pvalue < 0.05. It can be defined that null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and automatically alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This can be concluded whether there is a significant difference between students’ mean score of both pre-test and post-test. It is also showed by the mean score of post-test is higher than the mean score of pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was 57.13636; meanwhile the mean score of post-test was 77.06818. By this calculating data, it can be defined that there is an effect after implementing One Day One Word Strategy for eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School 2 of Blitar. The effect is their score is improved after implementing this strategy. It implies that One Day one Word Strategy can be used as an alternative strategy for teaching and learning vocabulary of English.
