Abstract
The thesis entitled "The Effect of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) on Students’ Speaking Ability at MTsN 1 Tulungagung" was written by Peni Wulandari, Student ID Number 1860203221029, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, advisor by Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. Keywords: Speaking Ability, Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), Transactional Speaking. Speaking is one of the essential skills in learning English because it enables students to communicate effectively in real-life situations. However, many students still face difficulties in speaking English, particularly in transactional speaking activities. Therefore, an appropriate teaching approach is needed to improve students’ speaking ability. One approach that can be applied is Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). This study aimed to determine whether Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has a significant effect on students’ transactional speaking ability at MTsN 1 Tulungagung. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The samples were selected using purposive sampling because the study used existing classes. The samples consisted of 33 students in the experimental class and 33 students in the control class. Data were collected through speaking tests and analyzed using an Independent Sample t-test with IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that the experimental class achieved a higher mean score (22.21) than the control class (18.21). Furthermore, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was < 0.001, which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. These findings indicate that Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has a significant effect on students’ transactional speaking ability at MTsN 1 Tulungagung.
