Abstract
ABSTRACT Rofiqoh, Bikry Faridatur. Student Registered Number. 1723143025. 2018. The Activities of Everest Public High School Alumna for Supporting Extensive Speaking. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Muh. Basuni, M.Pd. Keywords: activity, extensive speaking Speaking is one of the most complex problems in learning English. Learners should have some activities to support their speaking, especially when they will have extensive speaking, because they are not only focusing on their mastery on vocabulary, but also their pronunciation, grammar, even fluency. Extensive speaking demands them to be able to convey the message or the purpose of their speech. There is one student in Tulungagung who can speak English very well, even graduated from one school in America, named Everest Public High School. She also had an extensive speaking activity in front of native speakers. Based on that phenomenon, the researcher is interested to find out the activities that support her extensive speaking. The question that formulated by the researcher is “What are the activities that can support Everest Public High School alumna in her extensive speaking?” The purpose of the study is to know the activities of Everest Public High School alumna for supporting her extensive speaking. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was narrative inquiry with qualitative approach, 2) the subject of this study was Everest Public High School alumna who is also a senior student at SMAN 1 Kauman, 3) the research instrument was interview, 4) the data analysis was using three steps, they are data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. After conducted an interview, the researcher found the result of this study. The activities that support the subject’s extensive speaking are individual short talk, individual power point presentation, class discussion, spontaneous speaking, reading journal or any English text, watching video of English presentation, watching English animation or cartoon movies, and listening English song. She said that watching video of English presentation is her main activity to enrich their vocabularies and improve her extensive speaking skill. She also learns how to deliver the message to the audience. The conclusion of this study is that various activities are needed to support the student for preforming extensive speaking. The subject said that those activities can help her to improve her skill, especially in speaking.
