Registered Student 1723143132. “The Effectiveness of Using Guided Dialogue Through Describing Picture Toward Students’ Speaking Ability At Islamic Junior High School One Durenan”. Thesis. English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto. S.S. M.Pd Keyword: Speaking, Guided Dialogue Through Describing Picture Speaking is an important aspect in learning second language or foreign language. It also has important in language teaching learning. There are many techniques in teaching speaking. One of them is teaching by using Guided Dialogue Through Describing Picture. This technique is the combination of two techniques guided and dialogue through describing picture. This technique is supposed to be practiced by the teacher in order to manage the students well. Research problems were: (1) How is students’ speaking ability taught using guided dialogue through describing picture? (2) How is the students’ speaking ability taught without using guided dialogue through describing picture? (3) Are there any significance difference scores of the students’ by using taught and without using guided dialogue through describing picture? The design of this research is quasi-experimental using Two-Group (Pretest-Posttest). The population was the students of eighth grade at Islamic Junior High School One Durenan. Sample of this research was also eighth grade student consisted of 58 students. The instrument used by the researcher was test (pretest-posttest). While the data analysis used by researcher was T-test. The findings of the research showed that students’ scores before being taught by guided dialogue through describing picture is low, because the total score of 58 students is only 7.302. After getting treatment total score of student ability was 3.944. It mean that the student score is good. The student ability was getting better based on T-test analysis used by the researcher. The score of tcount compared with ttable gotten was use SPSS 16.0. Tcount 3.944 and Ttable 1.671. we know that tcount was bigger than ttable (tcount > ttable) = (3.944 > 1.671). Therefore, based on the hypothesis testing, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Finally, it can be concluded that Guided Dialogue through Describing Picture is effective used in teaching speaking for eighth grade students at Islamic Junior High School One Durenan.
