Keywords: Mindmapping technique, reading comprehension Reading is an important skill in language teaching. The students will have difficulties in expresing their ideas if they do not comprehend their reading comprehension. Through reading, students can expose their self to new thing and also get the more information and knowledge. The problem that most of students think that reading is boring activity. Usually the students read the text but they do not understood what they read. As the alternative way to solve the problem, the researcher apply mindmapping technique to solve the problems’ students in reading comprehension. Mind mapping is one of the essential or important technique to improve student’s creativity to solve problem, especially to conduct their reading comprehension. This research was conducted to answer the following problem of this research : How is The Effectiveness of using Mind Mapping technique towards the student’s reading achievement in narrative text at MAN 3 Tulungagung? The method used in this research is pre-experimental research design with the population the tenth grade students at MAN 3 Tulungagung that consist of 7 classes (249 students). The sample of this research was X-IIS 2 class consisting of 31 students selected by means purposive sampling. Meanwhile, the instrument used is reading test. The data collected through pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test with SPSS 16.00 version. From the analysis it was found that the mean score before being taught by using mindmapping technique is 66.26. The mean score after being taught by using mindmapping technique is 82.65. The significance value is 0.000 and the significance level is 0.05. It means that the significance value is smaller than significance level (0.000 < 0.05). So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It can be concluded that mindmapping technique is effective to help students in their reading comprehension and made the teaching and learning more fun for the tenth grade senior high school.
