Abstract

Key Words: Speaking skill, Recount Text, Video Blog Speaking is one of the key in English communication. Therefore, the students should mastery in speaking English. In fact, the students face difficulties such as: (1) difficulty to arrange the sentence (2) less of vocabulary (3) worried if making mistake in their pronunciation (3) less of the students’ motivation. The students are needs more practice to improve their ability. Therefore, the teacher needs creative and innovative strategy to make the students more interest to study. One of the alternative teaching technique is the implementation of video blog based role-play by utilize WhatsApp group. By using this technique the students have a chance to explore their ability without feeling pressured to speak in front of their friends because here they would not face to face with their friends directly. This study was conduct to investigate the effectiveness of video blog in increasing students’ score on speaking of recount text. The formulations of research problem in this study are: (1) how is the development of students’ speaking skill of recount text taught by Video Blog? (2)Is the use of video blog effective to increase the students’ speaking skill score of recount text? . This study used pre-experimental design which belongs to quantitative approach by using one group pretest and posttest. The population of this study was eight grade students of SMPN 1 Sunbergempol which consist of 10 classes with total of the students 370. The sample of the study was VIII C of SMPN 1 Sumbergempol which consist of 30 students. The instrument used of this research in pre-test and post-test was oral test by using instruction. In this study, the researcher conducted three step of research there were: pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data analyzed by using paired sample T-test processed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 16. The finding of the study showed there was the different score of pretest and postest. The mean of prestest score was 43.70 and the mean of postest score was 55.47. It is mean that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that the use of video blog was effective used as the alternative technique in teaching speaking English to increase the students’ score of speaking skill. The implication of this study are: (1) video blog can be used by the teachers as the alternative technique in teaching speaking English (2) the use of video blog will make the students more interest to study (3) by using video blog the students can further to explore their ability and it will increase the students’ confidents (4) the students can introspection their lack by watching their friends video.
