Abstract

Keywords: Speaking skill, Panoramic Postcards Speaking is one skills in English which has to be learned by the students. As speaking process, media is educational object which influences teacher to transfer message. The aim of media is important and it is possible to coordinate between teaching with learning. Far away, one of media which came in handle for teaching speaking is panoramic postcards. It has come to take an important part in speaking. By panoramic postcards, the students will become creative to get idea by creating or develop idea, so as they can speak after seeing these postcards and also help the students to describe fluently using their additional vocabulary. The formulation of the research problem is aimed to find out whether panoramic postcard effective or not to be implemented in teaching speaking. The purpose of the research problem was to find out if panoramic postcard effective to be implemented in teaching speaking. Research Method applied in this study included: 1) the research design in this research was pre-experimental design with quantitative approach in the form of one group pre-test and post-test in which there is one single group who get the treatment, 2) the population of this research was all of first grade students at SMAN 1 Tulungagung which consist of seven classes and the total of the students were 231, 3) the sample was X-2 which consist of 33 students, 4) the variable were independent and dependent variable. Independent variable was panoramic postcards and dependent variable was the students’ speaking skill in speaking descriptive text, 5) the research instrument was test or instrument, 6) the data analysis was using Paired Sample T-test with SPSS 16. The result shows that the students’ mean score before being taught using by panoramic postcards was 61.97 and the students’ mean score after being taught using by panoramic postcards was 69.82. However there is comparation between the students’ mean score before and after being taught by panoramic postcards. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Paired Sample T-test with SPSS 16, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (< 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that panoramic postcard was effective to be implemented in speaking descriptive text.
