Keywords: Teaching Writing, Writing Ability, Descriptive Text, Peer Assessment, WhatsApp. Writing is a skill or ability from the writer to convey and organize their idea or knowledge into a readable text that purposing to deliver some meanings. Writing requires complex thinking to put ideas in their mind on a paper to transform them in words and become sentences by using structure and coherent organization. Positive of ICT in learning and teaching English are, building self confidence to the teacher, connect into reality, to make easy learning process possibility to motivate students, possibility to offer variation in teaching and prepare students for college.The use of peer assessment through WhatsApp is expected to have a positive effect in improving students' learning interest in following the lesson that influence to their learning outcomes especially in writing descriptive text. In these techniques, the students are use the WhatsApp as the media to arguing and commenting their peer works. The formulations of the research problems were:1) How is the students’ ability in writing descriptive text assessed by using peer assessment technique through WhatsApp? 2) How is the students’ ability in writing descriptive text without assessed by using peer assessment technique through WhatsApp? 3) Is there any significant difference on the students’ ability in writing descriptive text between assessd and without assessed by by using peer assessment technique through WhatsApp?Research method: 1) The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) The population of this study was the first grade students of SMAN 01 Tulungagung, 3) The samples were X3 class as control group consisted of 34 students and X1 class as experimental class consisted of 32 students, 4) The research instrument was in the form of writing test, 5) The data analysis was using Two Samples Independent T-test. The result showed that the students’ mean value taught by peer assessment through WhatsApp was 73.48 while the students’ mean value taught without using peer assessment through WhatsApp technique was 65.48. The students’ gained score who were assessd by using peer assessment through WhatsApp technique was 12.52 while the students’ gained score who were assessd without using peer assessment through WhatsApp technique was 2.92. T-count was 7.478 with standard error of difference 2.115, the critical value for 52 degree freedom (df) at significant value 5% was 0.000. It means that Ha which states that there is significant different score on the students’ writing ability in descriptive text between assessed by using and without using peer assessment through WhatsApp is accepted. Whereas, Ho which states that there is no significant difference on the students’ ability in writing descriptive text between assessed by using and without using peer assessment through WhatsApp is rejected. This means that there was significant effect of using descriptive text between taught by using and without using peer assessment through WhatsApp at SMAN 01 Tulungagung in the Academic Year 2017/2018
