Abstract
Keyword: The effectiveness, vocabulary, Video Disc media Vocabulary is needed to have an effective communication, without vocabulary mastery the students will find difficulties in having a communication. In teaching vocabulary at the fourth year’s student as young learners, the teacher should have various ways so the students won’t feel bored. In this thesis the writer wants to present one of the ways that can be used in teaching vocabulary, which is by using video disc (vocabulary disc). The research problems purposed in this study are: 1) How is students’ achievement in vocabulary when they are taught before using vocabulary Disc as the teaching media? 2) How is students’ achievement in vocabulary when they are taught after using vocabulary Disc as the teaching media? 3) Is there any significant influence on the vocabulary mastery between those who are taught before using vocabulary Disc and those who are thought after using vocabulary Disc?. The research design used in this study is experiment is with quantitative design. The subject of the research fourth year students at SDI Sunan Giri Ngunut. Data collecting method use is test (pre-test and post-test). The analysis technique is emphasized on the analysis use t-test with pre-test and post-test (before taught using and after taught using vocabulary Disc treatment). From the result of the study, it revealed that, the students achievement on vocabulary before taught using Video Disc is good score but in the interval near fair,. it can be seen from result of pre-test that the average ( 72.33) with 6.67% students get bad/low, 13.33% students get less, 16.67% students get enough/fair, 20% students get good, 43.33% students get very good. The student’s achievement on vocabulary after taught using Video Disc is good score and near very good score. It can be seen from result of post-test that the average( 78.37) with none get bad/low, 20% students get less, 6.67% students get enough/fair, 13.33% students get good, 60% students get very good. It means that the average of post-test is good because the average of post-test higher than pre-test (78.37 > 72.33). To check the significant effect of the treatment, the writer analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the t-test was 4,4. The writer consulted the critical value on the t-table using the 5 %( 0, 05) alpha level of significance and the 30 degree of freedom which was 2,042 .Since the obtained t-value was higher than the critical value on the table (4,4 > 2,042), the difference was statistically significant. The result is rejecting the null hypothesis. It means that there were any significant different between score of pre-test and post-test. It can be concluded that the students get good achievement in mastering vocabulary after taught by using Video Disc (vocabulary Disc).
