ABSTRACT Lestari, Heni. Registered Number Student 17203153087. 2019. The Effectiveness of Using Claymation Video on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at Eigh Grade of Junior High school. Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Sukarsono, M.Pd. Key Words: effectiveness, Claymation Video, Vocabulary. Vocabulary is an important element for the English language. If the students have the little vocabulary,the students face difficulties in speaking,writing, listening, and reading. The students should practice their vocabulary. Getting a lot of vocabulary they can master English well. Therefore, the teacher should have a creative and innovative way to motivate the students to learn the vocabulary. One way to teach vocabulary to the students is by using claymation video. This way can make the students more interested when they learn vocabulary. The formulation of the research problem in this study are : (1) How is the development of students’ vocabulary mastery taught by Claymation Video? (2) Is there any significant difference scores before and after being taught by using Claymation Video?. The objective of the research in this study are : (1) To know the development of the students’ vocabulary mastery taught by Claymation Video (2) To know the significant difference of the students score before and after teaching by Claymation Video. This research is an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The researcher design was a pre-experimental design in the form of one-group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was all students of eighth grade at MTsN 2 Tulungagung. The sample was VIII-B consisting of 38 students. The instrument of this research was vocabulary pre-test and post-test.The data analyzed by using paired sample t-test processed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 16. From the statistical calculation, the value of t-test is 8.939, which is higher than the value of t-table was 2.042. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The result showed that the students’ mean score in vocabulary mastery before they are taught by using claymation video was 50.26. while the students’ mean score after they are taught by using claymation video was 66.58. It was improved from 50.26 to 66.58. the significant value is 0.000 and the significant level is 0.05. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.000 < 0.05). So it can be concluded that Ha which states that there is a significant influence of using claymation video toward students’ vocabulary mastery at MTsN 2 Tulungagung was accepted. Whereas, Ho which states there is no a significant influence of using claymation video toward students’ vocabulary mastery at MTsN 2 Tulungagung. In other word, claymation video is effective and can be used as an alternative media to teach vocabulary to the students at MTs level, especially on the eight grade of MTsN 2 Tulungagung. Finally, it is suggested that claymation video is used as alternative teaching media for English teacher in teaching and learning activity on vocabulary mastery.
