Vocabulary is the important one that should be mastered by the student of English learning. Mastering vocabulary may help students in learning foru basics of English. Listening, reading, writing and speaking will be much better when the students have some more vocabulary in their memory. Mastering vocabulary also help the students to solve the problem that probably appear in the learning English proccess. In the school, especially in the english class, the student may get some difficulties in memorizing some word, and remembering what the have memorized. Therefore, this method comes to solve those kind of problems in teaching vocabulary. Actually, there are some strategies or tehniques and also media that can be applied for teaching vocabulary. The common tehniques such as using mime, gestured, drawing in the blackboard, synonym, antonym are the good ways in improving student’s vocabulary. In other hand, the researcher wants to apply another strategy that may become the alternative one. List-Group-Label was designed to help teachers activate students’ schema in regards to a particular concept, to improve existing vocabulary, to organize verbal concepts, and to remember new vocabulary. The researcher wants to explore the use of List-Group-Label strategy to improve students’ vocabulary in learning English especially in descriptive text. According to the discussion the result of using this strategy had been proven by the data that there was significant differences in student’s score. Therefore this strategy in quiet answer the research question” Is the List-Group-Label strategy effective to apply in teaching vocabukary?”. Then, the anwer is yes it is approriate to use in teaching vocabualary. The researcher used experimental design with quantitative approach. The researcher conducted this study by using quasi experimental research. The population were all students of seventh graders of SMPN 1 Kalidawir. The sample of the study were two groups of 62 students of VII-E as experiment group and VII-F as control group in the academic year of 2018/2019. The instruments used in this research was vocabulary test in the form of multiple choices (pre-test and post-test). Those groups had to take a pre-test, before the treatment was given. Experimental group received the treatments by using List- Group-Label (LGL) strategy and the control group is treating by common strategy. After finishing the all treatments, both groups experimental and control had to conduct a post-test. Post test was conducted to find out whether there were a significant differences in the students’ achievement between the experimental and the control groups, t-test statistical analysis was applied by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 23.0. The results show that there was a significant difference in the students’ vocabulary achievement between the experimental and the control groups. The x significant (2- tailed) coefficient was 0%. It was lower than the significant coefficient 5%, thus, the working hypothesis was accepted. Next, the student’s mean score of experimental group on pre-test was 62.33 and the mean score of post-test was 77, 00. The gain of the mean score was 14, 67. The student’s mean score of control group on pre-test was 53.13 and the mean score of post-test was 56, 25. The gain of the mean score was 3.12. It means that list group label is effective in teaching vocabulary.
