The Effectiveness of Self Assessment on Student Achievement In Writing Narrative Text Among Ninth Graders At MTsN 2 Kediri Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis. English Education Department. Many students felt difficult when the teacher asked them to write a text. It is the problem of students in writing. However writing achievement is very important. This is a condition where the importance of writing strategies to facilitate the writing process. The use of Self Assessment is expected to have effect in improving students' learning interest in following the lesson that influence to their learning outcomes especially in writing narrative text. Based on explanation above, the writer has the motivation to conduct the research, entitled The Effectiveness of Self Assessment on Student Achievement in Writing Narrative Text Among Ninth Grade At MTsN 2 Kediri. The formulation of the research problem was: Is there any significant difference score in writing of the students’ achievement taught with and without using self assessment. The objective of this research was to find out if there is any significant difference score in writing of the students’ achievement taught with and without using self assessment. The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the ninth grade students of MTsN 2 Kediri. The samples of this research were IX E class as control group consisted of 31 students and IX B class as experimental group consisted of 31 students. The research instrument was in the form of writing test. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t-test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.00. The result showed that the students’ mean score in experimental group before being taught using by Self Assessment was 64.90 and the students’ mean score after being taught using by Self Assessment was 80.65. In the control group also there is improvement mean score from 55,74 became 61.94. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 16.00, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using self assessment on students’ achievement in writing narrative text at MTsN 2 Kediri. In the other words, Self Assessment was recommended for the teacher to teach writing.
