ABSTRACT Sholihah, Lia Ikatus. NIM. 17203153013. 2019. The Effectiveness of Using Cartoon Story Maker on Students’ Writing Achievement at the Second Grade Of SMPN 1 Ngantru. Thesis. Keywords: Effectiveness, Cartoon Story Maker, Writing Achievement. Writing can be described as the process of organizing ideas. Writing is kind of productive skill. In writing, the students have to produce language by generating their ideas into text, dialogue, paragraph, and etc. Nowadays, students feel bored with conventional method that used in teaching writing. In this context, the students have to feel enjoy when they imagine and create their ideas. Because of the importance of writing, it requires a relax and fun atmosphere that can support students learning by providing media in writing by using Cartoon Story Maker. The study was done to verify whether or not Cartoon Story Maker was effective used in teaching writing. The research problem was “Is there any significant difference score on the students’ writing achievement taught by using cartoon story maker and those taught without using cartoon story maker”. Research method: 1) the research design of this study was Quasi experimental with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this study was second grade students of SMPN 1 Ngantru, 3) the samples were VIII A class consisted of 30 students and VIII B class consisted of 30 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data analysis was using T-test. The finding showed that using Cartoon Story Maker was effective used in teaching writing at second grade of SMPN 1 Ngantru. The effectiveness of Cartoon Story Maker can be shown in the following points: 1) the mean of students’ score in pre-test taught by using Cartoon Story Maker was 63.00 and the mean of students’ score in post-test was 82.50. The gain of the mean score was 19.50. 2) the mean of students’ score in pre-test taught without Cartoon Story Maker was 60.17 and the mean of students’ score in pre-test was 71.33. The gain of the mean score was 11.16. 3) the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) was 0.000 smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). The result means that there is significant different in writing achievement of the students taught by using Cartoon Story Maker and those taught without using cartoon story maker.
