Abstract

Language plays an important role in society’s life. In society, language is used for communication. Language also became an important role at the process of teaching and learning. social background of teacher and student can influent in the usage of code switching and mixing. In communication, there are formal language and informal language. Formal language is used in formal situations, while informal language is more common in spoken language and in informal situations. Basically, to determine a context uses formal or informal language is by noticing the selected vocabulary. One of the characteristics of informal is the usage of code mixing used by members of certain group for internal communication that may not be understood by members of other groups. In this study, the writer discusses code switching and mixing used in Vlog because vlog is a type of video which is popular among teenagers nowadays. The researcher aim to conduct this research in order to be a model of teaching and learning. Therefore, improving knowledge about code is important to develop the ability in the usage of code switching and mixing. The formulations of research problems are: 1) What are the types of code switching and mixing used in vlog nebeng boy? 2) What factors influence code switching and mixing used in vlog nebeng boy? The purposes of this study are: 1) to find out the types of code switching and mixing used in vlog nebeng boy 2) to find out the factors of the usage code switching and mixing in vlog nebeng boy. The research design of this study is content analysis with qualitative approach. The data source of this study is taken from nine video blogs (vlogs) made by selected American teenage vloggers. The criteria to select the vloggers are: 1) Indonesian citizen, 2) bilingual or multilingual 3) have at least 10.000 viewer on the YouTube video, there are six types of code switching and mixing. The writer also uses some theories related to slang language and its definition that is Hoffman theory.
