Abstract

Student Registered Number, 1723143002. 2019. “The Effectiveness of Using EGRA (Exposure, Generalization, Reinforcement, Application) Strategy toward Students’ Achievement in Writing Skill Recount Text of 8th Grade at Junior High School 2 PAKEL”. Thesis English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, M. Pd. Keyword: The effectiveness, EGRA strategy, Writting skill, Recount text. Writing is an extremely complex cognitive activity in which the writer is required to demonstrate control of number of variable simultaneously. Writing is a combination of process and product. In the process of writing, the writer should explore her mind to find new ideas to make their writing meaningful. The ideas will be transferred in a sentence, a paragraph, and a text. Writing is also basic language skill for every students but they must pay attention on how to make good writing. One of it was recount text that have many strategy for writting it. This strategy was EGRA. The question in this research 1. How is the students’ writing ability in recount text taught by using EGRA strategy ? 2. How is the students’ writing ability in recount text taught by using a convetional technique ? 3. Is there any significant difference on the students’ writing ability in recount text taught by using EGRA strategy and those taught by using a convetional technique ? was This research uses quantitative and collects data using a questionnaire The result of this research 1. Writting of student when students write using the egra strategy they are more systematic and the logic flow is organized 2. the data was analyzed, it could be cocluded that EGRA strategy effective in which was significance different of using EGRA strategy on students’ writing achievement in recount text which from mean of 40 students of experimental group is 82 become 96 after being taught by using EGRA strategy. But, there is no improvement mean of 40 students in control group from 79 become 87 but there just a little reduction. Based on the result of independent T-test by using SPSS 16.00 program, it showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than significance level (0.00 < 0.05). 3. The result of significance value indicate that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. So, there is a significant effect of using EGRA strategy on students’ achievement in writing recount text at SMPN 2 Pakel Tulungagung. In the other word, it means that EGRA strategy can be used as alternative strategy to be used in teaching writing especially in recount text.
