Abstract
Key word: teaching and learning speaking The term of language is defined as a system of sound of words and grammatical structure. English teaching should include four English skills they are: reading, writing, listening and speaking, but speaking skill has a prominent place in language programs around the world today. Learners often evaluate their success in language learning as well as the effectiveness of their English course on the basis of how much they feel they have improved in their spoken language proficiency. In some situation, lecturer use speaking to teach the learners, to give instructions or to get things done. Learning to speak a foreign language requires the ability to use the language appropriately in social interaction. Speaking ability is described as the ability to express oneself in one situation or the ability to report acts to express a sequence of ideas fluently. Formulations of the studies are :( 1) what are the students’ judgments on the speaking class of the second semester students at STAIN Tulungagung(2) What is the teaching used by the lecturer in the speaking class. And the purpose of study are :(1)to know about the students’ judgments on the speaking class of the second semester students at STAIN Tulungagung(2)to know what is the teaching used by the lecturer to the speaking class. Research design of this study is descriptive with survey and quantitative approach. The subjects of the research are the speaking lecturer and the second semester students. On this research the writer only take 25% of the total number of students as a sample. This research was conducted in English Education Department at STAIN Tulungagung. To analyze the data the writer uses statistic formula. The data were collected by using the instrument; they were questionnaire and interview. The collected data from questionnaire and interview were analyzed using the following steps: Classifying the Data and discussing the finding. Research finding and discussion, in conclusion it is to know about the students’ judgments to overcome the problem while on teaching and learning process. It is essential for the lecturers who teach the speaking class to pay great attention to their students, rather than leading students to pure memorization. Generally, by knowing about the students’ problem the lecturer will know how to overcome the problem and also how to run the speaking class. By choosing the right method and strategy and also using various methods on speaking class such as role play, debate, speech, discuss, can contribute a big deal for students in developing basic interactive skill.
