Abstract
Key words:authentic materials, students’achievement, writing, procedure text Among the four skills in English, writing is considered to be the most difficult one to master. It also happened in MTsN Tunggangri when they wrote a procedure text. The student have difficulties in writing procedure text because in teaching writing procedure the teacher didn’t improve the English instructional material and only use commercial book that produce by goverment. The result is the students’ability to write is low. To increase students’ability in writing procedure text, the teacher needs a strategy through using an aid that facilitates on writing procedure text. Authentic material is one of aid that can be used in teaching writing procedure text. This research is aimed at finding the answer to the following research questions. How is the result of the application Authentic materials in raising the students’ achievement writing procedure text first grader MTsN Tunggangri ? Its objectives to know the result of the application authentic materials in raising the students’ achievement writing procedure text first grader MTsN Tunggangri This research is a classroom action research. It was done through two cycles. The researcher used Kemmis and Taggart’s model. The classroom action research was conducted for three weeks in second semester of the academic year 2013/2014 that was in May 2014. The study was conducted at class VII-B of MTsN Tunggangri Kalidawir Tulungagung. There were 41 students as the subjects of study. The class had 21 females and 20 males. The research instrument was test and the data analysis used is criteria assessment that include, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic. In this research, the writer took a test of their improvement in each cycle. The mean of students’writing score in the first cycle was 61.1, with the highest and the lowest score is 90 and 41. The mean of students’writing score in the second cycle was 75.3, with the highest and the lowest score of 91 and 53. Finally the result of this research shows that students’ability was improved in each cycle after they were taught using authentic materials. They were better in their procedure text’s writing. It was signed by their improvements of each writing component, i.e. Organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic.
