Abstract

Key words: Audio Visual Aids, English Achievement. AVA are supporting media to increase the students’ English Achievement . AVA is much required because it can interest the concentration of students so that it can motivate students to learn. In this research, the reseacher uses Hypermedia as one of AVA that refers to Microsoft PowerPoint Program as teaching media. The problem of this research is “Is there any significant effect of using AVA on the first year students' listening, reading, writing and speaking achievement at SMP Islam Pule Trenggalek in the academic Year 2009-2010?". The purpose of this research is to know whether there is significant effect of using AVA on listening, reading, writing and speaking achievement of the first grade students. Based on the theory, the researcher has hypothesis that there is significant effect of using AVA on listening, reading, writing and speaking achievement of the first grade students of SMP Islam Pule Trenggalek in the academic Year 2009-2010. The design of the research is experimental design in the form of randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The sample that the researcher used is 30 students as the experimental group and 40 students as the control group. To get the sample the researcher used random sample. To obtain the research data, the researcher use test, observation, documentation and interview. Where as, to find out mean difference between the experimental and the control groups achievement, the researcher uses t-test formula. The result of data analysis showed that statistical value of t-test was higher than the critical value of t-table. The general achievement is (7.7>2). And the specific achievement are (2.3>2) for listening test, (4.7>2) for reading test, (6.04>2) for writing test, (6.08>2) for speaking test. Those mean that AVA is effective for the English teaching learning process. There is a significant influence of AVA on listening, reading, writing and speaking achievement of the first grade students of SMP Islam Pule Trenggalek in the academic Year 2009-2010.
