Abstract
ABSTRACT Musafak, Dzulfikar Z. Students Registered Number. 17203163184. 2020. A Deixis Analysis of the Lyrics of the Songs on Maroon 5‟s Overexposed Album. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, S.S., M.pd. Keywords: Pragmatigs, Deixis, Song Lyrics The researcher formulated the problem in this research: (1) What are the deixis types found in the song lyrics on Maroon 5’s Overexposed album?, and (2) What are the functions of each deixis found in the song lyrics on Maroon 5’s Overexposed album? The purposes of the research were: (1) To find out the types of deixis found in the song lyrics on Maroon 5’s Overexposed album, and (2) To find out the function of each deixis found on Maroon 5’s Overexposed Album songs. This research used descriptive qualitative method as the research method. The instrument was the researcher himself. The object of this research was the song lyrics on Maroon 5’s Overexposed album. The data of the research was all of the utterance that exists in the song lyrics on maroon 5’s Overexposed album. The steps to analyze the data were: (1) Organizing the data, (2) Summarizing the data, and (3) Interpreting the data. The result of this research showed that there are three kinds of deixis exist in Overexposed album songs, those are person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. The function of person deixis is to point someone or thing. The function of spatial deixis is to point the location. The function of temporal deixis is to point the time of the utterance happens.
