Machrita, Septina Tsalis. Registered Number 12203173117. The Analysis of Students’ Response in Learning by Using WhatsApp Group of English Education Department at IAIN Tulungagung. Advisor: Nany Soengkono Madayani, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Students’ Response, WhatsApp This research was conducted because of the phenomenon of online learning in the pandemic. The students felt the impact of this situation, including the fifth semester of English students at IAIN Tulungagung. The learning process had to be conducted in online learning, most of the online class in English Department used WhatsApp application, like as Functional Grammar has complex material which should be explained directly. It became the active class one. So, the researcher excited to know the students’ response in learning by using WhatsApp group of english education department at IAIN Tulungagung” This research is a descriptive design with a qualitative approach to find out the students’ response in learning functional grammar by using WhatsApp group. The source of data in this study is functional grammar lecturer and the fifth semester of English students – TBI 5 C Class was chosen to be observed. The data obtained in this study used online class non-participation observation, interview with 5 subjects from 1 lecturer and 4 students, and documentation. The technique of data analysis used data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion. The finding of this study indicated that there are five students’ response in learning functional grammar by using WhatsApp group, namely the students’ interest in learning video that made by lecturer to replace direct material explanations, and the use features of WhatsApp group was complete and easy to discussion. The students’ confidence in deliver an opinion, present the material, and answer the quizzes that given by lecturer bravely. The students’ enthusiasm in actively participating is influenced by the lecturer in handling class online. The students’ motivation in create study club via zoom to learn their own because they wanted to get additional point. The students’ responsibility in completed all assignment that given by lecturer on time. The result of the analysis that has been done at the fifth semester of English student at IAIN Tulungagung. It can be concluded that the response that given by students in learning functional grammar tended to be positive as well as the WhatsApp group and Zoom Application used. And the presence supportive lecturer in online learning made students could be active in class online.
