Keywords: Task Based Learning (TBL), Writing Writing is a skill to produce language in written form. Writing has always been challenging to learn. The process of writing is also considered taking long time and difficult because there are components that should be put together. Concerning to this issue, a strategy is required in order to accomplish the goal of learning. One of strategies applicable in teaching writing is Task Based Learning (TBL). Task Based Learning allows students to use task as the main focus of learning and use target language to support and complete the task. According to that reason, the researcher is challenged to find out whether Task Based Learning (TBL) has an effect on students’ writing ability or not. This research took place in MAN Kota Blitar which is located in the city center of Blitar. Therefore, the researcher carried out a study entitled “The Effectiveness of Task Based Learning (TBL) toward Students’ Writing Ability at 11th Grade of MAN Kota Blitar”. The formulation of research problem of this research was “Is there any significant different score in students’ explanation text writing of eleventh grade between experimental group which was taught by using Task Based Learning strategy and control group which was not taught by using Task Based Learning strategy?.” The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is significant different score in students’ explanation text writing of eleventh grade between experimental group which was taught by using Task Based Learning strategy and control group which was not taught by using Task Based Learning strategy. This research applied quasi-experimental design by using two group pre-test and post-test with quantitative approach. The population of this research was 11th grade students of MAN Kota Blitar in academic year 2020/2021. Meanwhile the samples were the students of XI MIA 2 as experimental group and XI MIA 3 as control group which each consisted of 35 students. The research instruments of this study were pre-test and post-test for two classes. The data was analyzed using Independent Sample Test in SPSS 16.0. The finding showed that Task Based Learning (TBL) strategy is effective to be used in teaching writing at 11th grade students of MAN Kota Blitar. It could be verified from the post-test mean of experimental group was 87.09, meanwhile the post-test mean of control group was 77.60. Thus, it stated clearly that the mean score of experimental group is higher than control group. The result also showed that the value of Sig (2-tailed) was 0.000 and smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). It indicated that the effect of treatment given to the experimental group was the increasing score. Therefore, it can be concluded that Task Based Learning (TBL) strategy was effective on students’ writing ability.
