Abstract
ABSTRACT Nabilla. Berlian. Student Register Number 12203183100 “An Analysis of Educational Value in Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone Movie”. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah State Islamic University. Advisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, S. S., M. Pd. Keywords: Educational Value, Movie. In this study, the writer is interested in analyzing the educational values contained in the movie “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone” because the national value has a big influence on human life, especially students and the world of education. Then by analyzing the value of education, it is hoped that it can build good character for the audience. In today's education, learning English can be accessed easily. Many media provide English language learning, one of which is audio-visual media such as movie. Most students in Indonesia today, are more interested in learning through movie. In this study, there are two research problems to be analyzed. The first problem is “What are educational values found in “Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone” movie?” and the second problem is “Which educational value is the most dominant appearing in “Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone” movie?” The aims of this study are: (1). Analyzing the educational values in the movie. (2). Knowing the educational values that most appear in the movie. This kind of research is Library Research. The data were taken by watching the movie and reading the scripts. Meanwhile, the writer used 4 steps to collect data for this study. There are: (1). Watching the movie. (2). Reading the scripts. (3). Identifying educational value in the movie. (4). Concluding. The writer analyzed the data using the Documentation method. To analyze the data, the writer used an analytic procedures by Bodgan. There are: (1). Watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone movie. (2). Reading the scripts of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone movie more than twice. (3). Identifying the educational value in the movie. (4). Drawing Conclusion. The result of this study showed that 5 educational values appear in this movie, there are: (1). Honesty. (2). Friendly. (3) Social Care. (4). Confidence and Potential. (5). Courage. The most appearing educational value in this study is Social care. This study was expected to be used as a reference for similar studies related to educational value, and it is hoped to give additional information to readers and students about studying English through the movie.
