The Effectiveness of Using Wholesome Scattering Game on the Students’ Writing Skill in Descriptive Text at the First Grade of SMPN 1 Trowulan Mojokerto. Thesis. English Education Department. Keywords: Effectiveness, Wholesome Scattering game, Writing Descriptive text Writing skill is the most complicated among the four skills, because it needs extra thinking for making sentences and paragraph in English. Teachers have to find strategy or effective media to encourage students interest and build their self confidence in writing. Wholesome Scattering game is believed to be effective to teach writing, especially in descriptive text. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of Wholesome Scattering game on the students’ writing skill, in descriptive text at the First Grade of SMPN 1 Trowulan Mojokerto. The method used in this research is quasi experimental, with a quantitative approach. The samples of this research were VII – D as the experiment class that consist of 32 students and VII – C as the control class that consisted of 32 students. They were chosen through the use of purposive sampling. A writing test was used as the instrument. Data was collected through pre – test and post – test and analyzed using the Independet Sample T – test in SPSS 26. A statistical calculation showed that the Wholesome Scattering game was a good way to teach students how to write descriptive text. Statistical calculations of post- test results and the control group can show this. The T – test showed that the significant value was 0.016, which was less than 0.05. The significant value showed that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It can be conclude that Wholesome Scattering game strategy had a big effect on the students writing skill of descrptive text at the first grade of SMPN 1 Trowulan Mojokerto. The Wholesome Scattering game strategy can help students develop their abilities, because there was signifiant different score of the students’ writing ability that were taught with and without wholesome scattering game stratgey. In other words, the Wholesome Scattering game strategy can be used as an alternative strategy in teaching writing especially for descriptive text.
