Abstract
ABSTRACT Nurayni, Kardian. Student Registered Number.3213113088. 2015. A Study on Teaching Speaking of Eleventh Grade Student at SMK Islam 1 DurenanTrenggalek Academic Year 2014-2015.Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department.Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training.State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: H. NurSamsu, M. Pd. Keywords: Teaching, Speaking. English is an international language, which must be mastered by thestudents. Mastery English is important to be successful in the globalization era toachieve good ability in speaking. Teaching speaking must covers some goodaspects, those are strategy, activity and evaluation in teachingprocess. Thus starting point from those survey and statements, it encouraged theresearcher to conduct the research about a study on teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenan. The formulation of the research problem was: 1) What strategies are used on teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenan? 2) What kinds of activities are conducted to improve speaking skill at SMK Islam 1 Durenan? 3) What is the evaluation in teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenan? Thepurpose of the study was: 1) To find out the strategy on teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenan 2) To find out the activities are conducted to improve peaking skill at SMK Islam 1 Durenan 3) To find out the evaluation on teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenan aimed to investigate the correlation among the vocabulary mastery and English-Indonesian translation ability. Research method: 1) research design in this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach; 2) the subject in this study was the teacher and student of eleventh grade at SMK Islam 1 Durenan; 3) Thedata of this research were taken from interview with English teachers andstudents, observation, and documentation; 4) The techniques of data verificationin this research are using source triangulation and technique triangulation; 5) Toanalyze the data, the researcher conducted some steps include organizing ancoding, summarizing, and interpreting the data. The result showed that the teacher strategies used in teaching speaking at SMK Islam 1 Durenanisgive students practice with both fluency and accuracy, provide appropriate feedback and correction, use group work or pair work, provide intrinsically motivating techniques, capitalize on natural link between speaking and listening, and use authentic material. The activity were conduct in teaching speaking are communicative games, discussion, debate, presentation, describing something,sharing, and singing songs. 3) The techniques which were used to assess students’speaking skill are: dialogue presentation, telling picture, interview, telling story,speech, discussion, conversational exchanges, debate, talk show, and productintroduction.
