Abstract

ABSTRACT Fauziyah, Anamariyatul. Student Registered Number .3213113004. 2015. Analysis on Implicatures Found in the Movie Script Entitled “In Time. Thesis. English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Sukarsono, M.Pd. In much of our conversation, we assume that speaker and listeners are generally cooperating with each other. However, in some circumstances, a speaker intends to communicate more than is said, that something must be more than just what the words mean. It is an additional meaning, called conversational implicature. Conversational implicature is an interesting thing where it is not a matter of a sentence but instead of an utterance meaning. In this study, the writer is interested in analyzing the implicature found the utterances by characters, the types of implicature, and frequency of the implicatures. This analysis uses the theory of implicature Grice is split into two types, namely conventional implicature and the conversation implicature. The method used is descriptive quantitative method. Sources of data obtained from the transcript of movie. Of analysis has been done many implicatures that appear from the characters. This thesis entitled ‘’Analysis on Implicatures Found in the Movie Script Entitled “In Time’’. This thesis analyzes the definition and types of implicatures, and also the frequency of implicature in the “In Time” movie. It is discusses the types of implicatures that appear from the conversation by the characters in the film and also analyze the frequency of utterances containing implicatures. Having analyzed the data, the writer found 178 implicatures that appear from the utterances of the characters in the movie. From the result of the analysis the writer can draw several significance conclusions. The writer finds through the analysis of implicature in “In Time” movie, that are The frequency of each types of implicature 35 or 19.66% included into Generalized Conversational Implicatures, 69 or 38.76% included into Particularized Conversational Implicatures, 47 or 26.40% included into scalar implicature, and 27 or 15.17% included into Conventional implicature.
