Abstract
Luthfina, Ziana Himmah. NIM: 12203173085. Educational Values Reflected in The Greatest Showman Movie Directed by Michael Gracey. Thesis. Department of English Education. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2021. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Educational Value, Movie, The Greatest Showman Movie In order to have deeply understanding about anything in real life, such as how to behave in society or in school environment, people need to know general literary work. Movie belongs to broadcasting media that can be used as a tool in observing or knowing educational values because movie can be stated as a representation of real life. Movies tend to relate to the world’s problems. In real life we have educationl values and we can find it in movie. The object of this research is educational values reflected or found in The Greatest Showman Movie. The researcher chose that movie because most of the researchers do not use American musical biographical drama film in observing educational values in their studies. This movie also won 19 awards and it received 35 nominations. The objective of this research was to find out types of educational value in The Greatest Showman Movie. The researcher used statement of Kemendiknas (2010: 09-10) as a parameter to analyze the educational value in the movie. This research used descriptive qualitative method and content analysis as the research design. In collecting the data, the writer used primary data source. The primary data source in this study is the dialogues or the utterances among the movie player or the characters containing educational values in the movie and script of The Greatest Showman Movie. These are some steps in collecting the data as follows: (1) Finding and downloading The Greatest Showman Movie, (2) Understanding the types of educational values, (3) Watching and understanding The Greatest Showman Movie, (4) Reading and understanding the script of The Greatest Showman Movie, (5) Giving notes or signs to all of dialogues containing educational values, (6) Writing down and classify the types of educational value based on the statement of Kemendiknas (2010: 09-10). After analyzing The Greatest Showman Movie script, the researcher found twenty nine utterances containing types of educational value. They were ten educational values in The Greatest Showman Movie. Those types are honesty, tolerance, hard working, creativity, curiosity, appreciating achievement, communicative, loving peace, social sensitivity, and responsibility.
